JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2003) - After a stellar performance against Concord in ETSU's home opener Thursday night, redshirt freshman quarterback Carl Meadows (Cummings, Ga.) was named Southern Conference Freshman of the Week. The 6-1, 190 pound signal-caller made the most of just his second collegiate start, completing 14-of-28 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns. It was the first 300-yard passing performance for the Buccaneers since Todd Wells threw for 307 yards against Wofford during the 2000 season. Meadows completed passes to six different receivers, including two touchdowns to senior Andrew Nuckolls (Tunnell Hill, Ga.), and one each to sophomores Brian Matthews (Georgetown, S.C.) and Frank Green (Monks Corner, S.C.). Through ETSU's first two games, Meadows has been impressive, completing 28-of-51 passes for 420 yards and five touchdowns against just two interceptions. He leads the Southern Conference in passing yards per game and total offense and is second in passing efficiency. The Buccaneers return to the gridiron on Thursday night at 8 p.m. EST against UT-Martin from Hardy M. Graham Stadium in Martin, Tenn.
