ETSU men's golf team ends tough weekend
at Carpet Capital Collegiate
Sunday, October 05, 2003 DALTON, Ga. (October 5, 2003) - It was a difficult weekend for the East Tennessee State men's golf team, as they finished 18th following Sunday's final round play the Carpet Capital Collegiate at the Farm Golf Club. The Bucs, who ended the event 57-strokes back of team champion Florida, were led by freshman ,Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales), who finished tied for 33rd at 4-over-par (73-74-73=220). Junior Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) also put together a solid outing, placing tied for 46th at 7-over (77-72-74). The rest of the Bucs - sophomore Chase Baldwin (Plant City, Fla.), sophomore Noel Kavanagh (Westport, Ireland), and junior Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) - all struggled against one of the toughest collegiate fields in the country. While Florida ran away with a five-stroke victory over Texas in the team competition, the Longhorns' Jason Hartwick didn't allow a Gator sweep of the top honors, taking home the individual crown with a 13-under 203 (71-65-67). Hartwick was five strokes better than South Carolina's Eirik Johansen. The Bucs will take two weeks off before getting back in action Oct. 20-21 at the Tournament of Champions in Knoxville.
