Lady Bucs currently third at The Shamrock Intercollegiate

(March 12, 2004) - Sophomore Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) continued her stellar play, shooting a 9-over 81 to help power the East Tennessee State University women's golf team to a third-place standing after first-round action Friday inThe Shamrock Intercollegiate at Tega Cay Golf Club.
The Lady Bucs are attempting to build off the momentum of their tournament championship last weekend in the Lady Terrier Intercollegiate. Barton's efforts were good enough for a fourth-place finish on the individual leaderboard, where she trails three players - Winthrop's Jenny Blake, Augusta State's Katy Heher and Coastal Carolina's Lauren Smith - by two strokes. As a team, the Lady Bucs are 10 strokes behind first place Coastal Carolina.
Along with Barton, sophomore Laura Diaz (Aquadilla, P.R.) finished tied for 12th at 12-over-par, while senior Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville, Tenn.) ended the day tied for 28th at 15-over. Meanwhile, junior Robin Downes (Johnson City, Tenn.) and sophomore Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada) both finished tied for 38th.
The event will continue Saturday and Sunday with second and third round play.
