SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Apr. 7, 2004) - East Tennessee State sophomore second baseman Josiah Glafenhein (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been selected as this week's TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week. Glafenhein raised his season batting average 34 points this weekend, as he batted .636 in a three-game SoCon series against Western Carolina. The first-year Buc went 7-for-11 with two homers, five RBIs and three runs scored. Glafenhein went 3-for-4 in Saturday's first game against the Catamounts with two runs scored and three RBIs. In that game Glafenhein hit two mammoth home runs to deep center field at Cardinal Park. In Saturday's game two, Glafenhein went 1-for-3 with an RBI. On Sunday, Glafenhein had another excellent game, going 3-for-4 again, scoring a run and driving in another. Glafenhein was integral in the Buccaneer comeback, driving in the tying run as the Bucs went on to defeat the Catamounts, 4-3. For the season, Glafenhein is tied for fifth on the Bucs with a .322 batting average. He is tied for the team lead with five home runs and has driven in 18 runs while scoring 24 more. Josiah is in the midst of a five game hitting streak, batting .526 (10-19) in games against Western Carolina and Elon. Glafenhein currently has a 3.86 GPA as a business finance major at East Tennessee State.
