JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 29, 2003) - The East Tennessee State University men's basketball team will hold a Blue-Gold scrimmage game Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. in Brooks Gym on the ETSU campus. Tickets are $2, with $1 of that ticket price going to Children's Hospital at the Johnson City Medical Center. The Buccaneers are coming off a 2002-03 season in which they won the Southern Conference North Division championship for a third-straight season, captured the SoCon Tournament title, and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1992. Players such as preseason SoCon Player of the Year Zakee Wadood, 2002-03 SoCon Freshman of the Year Tim Smith, and preseason All-SoCon selection Jerald Fields highlight this year's team, along with several talented returning players and newcomers. First-year head coach Murry Bartow said his team is pleased to help a worthy cause like the Children's Hospital. "It's our pleasure to help out in any way we can," Bartow said. "We're excited about the upcoming season and we are happy to give our fans a chance to see our players compete prior to the season." In addition to Sunday's game, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has planned many other activities over the next several weeks to help build excitement for the upcoming men's and women's basketball seasons. Below is a list of those events: Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7-8:30 p.m. - COME BEAT THE BUCS - Fans will have the opportunity to play basketball video games against ETSU basketball players in the Food Court at the Mall at Johnson City. Come by and beat the Bucs at their own game. Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. - EXHIBITION GAME AGAINST GLOBAL SPORTS - The Buccaneers will play their only official, open-to-the-public exhibition game at Brooks Gym on Nov. 10 against Global Sports. Tickets will be $5 with season ticket holders being admitted free. Sunday, Nov. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. - MAGICAL NIGHT OF GIVING AT THE MALL - Come meet the men's and women's teams at the Mall at Johnson City during the Magical Night of Giving. The teams will sign autographs, visit with fans and hand out posters and schedule cards. Friday, Nov. 21 at 8:30 p.m. - ETSU AT HOUSTON - The Buccaneers open their season on the road against Conference USA member Houston. Listen to the action on the Buccaneer Sports Network beginning with the pregame show live from the Sophisticated Otter at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. - ETSU vs. NWBL team - The Lady Bucs will play their only exhibition game of the preseason against the National Women's Basketball League Select team at Brooks Gym.
