CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 18, 2004) - Bryn Favor drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to give Chattanooga a 2-1 Southern Conference softball victory over East Tennessee State Sunday and complete a three-game series sweep. The win pushed UTC's winning streak to 12, which ties for the fourth-longest in school history. Chattanooga (36-20 overall, 11-1 SoCon) got outstanding pitching from Lacey Swarthout, who won her sixth consecutive decision. Swarthout (21-15) yielded just three hits and one run with five strikeouts and no walks. After ETSU (22-27, 3-9) took a 1-0 lead in the first on Lindsay Lane's (Erwin, Tenn.) RBI single, the Lady Mocs quickly tied it in the bottom of the inning. Melissa Ramirez walked and Leslie Barron singled to put runners at first and second with two outs. Robyn Johnson followed with a sharp single up the middle, which plated Ramirez. That's all the damage UTC could do to ETSU starter Tiffany McVay (11-8) (Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.) until the sixth. Johnson opened the sixth with a walk and Grace Pickett reached on a fielder's choice. Amanda Hoiness moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt and Stefani Thomas walked to load the bases. Favor drove a deep fly to left, which allowed Johnson to scoot home. By sweeping the series, the Lady Mocs have claimed a three-game lead in the SoCon standings. College of Charleston, which lost 2-of-3 games at Georgia Southern, is in second place at 8-4 and Elon is in third place at 9-6. The Lady Mocs host Elon in a three-game series next weekend. The teams play a doubleheader Saturday at Frost Stadium at 1 p.m. a single game Sunday at 2, while ETSU will face Virginia Tech and Radford at the State Line Classic April 21 in Bristol, Tenn.
