Women's Tennis Blanks Wright State, 7-0

RICHMOND, Ky. (Feb. 13, 2004) - The East Tennessee State women's tennis team swept all seven points in their win over the Wright State University in Richmond, Ky. The Bucs are currently 6-2 in the start of this season. In doubles, ETSU won all three matches for the point. The Bucs were led by junior Gemma Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) and senior Jessica Irey (Clewiston, Fla.) in the No. 1 slot. The pair beat Wright State's Maggie Jacobs and Audra Beckett in an 8-6 final decision. The team then went on to claim all six points in singles. Sophomore Jewel Aldea (Charleston, S.C.) had a strong showing in the match finishing 6-0, 6-0. "Overall, it was a very good match," said head coach Steve Brooks. "This win will help us as we head into two tough matches tomorrow." Women's tennis continues play in Richmond, Ky. tomorrow when they face host Eastern Kentucky University at 8:00 a.m. and Southern Illinois at 4:00 p.m. ETSU 7, Wright State 0 Singles 1.
