East Tennessee State Women's Tennis Wraps Up Second Day of Virginia Tech Tournament

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 27, 2003) - The Buccaneer women's tennis team continued its battle at the Virginia Tech Tournament on Saturday. ETSU won four of ten singles consolation matches, while in doubles the team won two of six matches. Jewel Aldea (Charleston, S.C.) defeated ETSU teammate Tatiana Arriaran (Cochabamba, Bolivia) 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the consolation finals in her flight. Aldea will face Marshall's Holly Asel, who defeated ETSU's Gemma Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 to advance. In doubles, both pairings that remained in the regular brackets were sent to the consolation rounds. Mariya Ilyina (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Courtney McInnis (Waterboro, Maine) were defeated by Marshall's Danielle Hock and Megan Skalsky 8-2, while Aldea and Arriaran were defeated by Meredith Holmes and Carolina Rodriguez from Virginia Tech 8-6.
