JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 3, 2004) - The 2004 CoSIDA University Division Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District IV teams were announced today. Senior Kristin Truman (Johnson City, Tenn.) received second team honors based on her academic and athletic performances. Academically, she finished her final year as a student-athlete at ETSU graduating with a degree in Biology and compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.899 during her career. The SoCon also recognized Truman by naming her to the TIAA-CREF Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the indoor season. Athletically, Truman placed fifth in the long jump at the Appalachian Invitational with a season best mark of 5.49m during the indoor season. She then went on at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships to place fourth in the triple jump (11.92m) and earned all-conference honors with her second-place finish in the pentathlon (3415 total points). She then carried her success into the outdoor season in which she notched an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark in the triple jump of 12.26m. That performance, which placed her third overall at the Vanderbilt Invitational meet, also helped her to be tabbed as the women's track and field athlete of the week. At mideast regionals, Truman recorded her second best jump in the triple jump of 12.18m. To be nominated for the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The District IV team is compiled from NCAA Division I women's track & field and cross country teams from Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. Members of the first team go on to represent District IV on the Academic All-America ballot. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Team is a part of the CoSIDA Academic All-America program. First team selections will appear on the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Track & Field/Cross Country team to be announced June 24.
