Ricciardi and Rainer Place at Virginia Tech Invite

Saturday, April 24, 2004

BLACKSBURG, Va. (April. 24, 2004) - Three athletes from the East Tennessee State track and field team competed at the Virginia Tech Invite on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Anna Marie Ricciardi (Canfield, Ohio) competed in the high jump and placed second with a mark of 1.62m. Sophomore James Rainer (Alcoa, Tenn.) and freshman Johnny Tucker (Spartanburg, S.C.) each competed in the 100-meter dash. Rainer placed second with a time of 10.66 while Tucker placed seventh. "Overall, our mentality wasn't where we needed to be," commented assistant coach Michelle Byrne. "The field size was small and we weren't as competitive. Still we were able to get another race in which helps set us up nice for the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships." ETSU travels to Boone, N.C. to take part in the SoCon Championships next weekend May 1-2.
