Wednesday, November 05, 2003

GREENSBORO, N.C. (November 5, 2003) - The East Tennessee State University women's soccer team prepares for it's second appearance in the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championships. The tournament will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C. and will continue through Sunday with the teams taking a rest day on Saturday. The fifth place Buccaneers (12-5-0 overall, 7-4-0 SoCon) will face the fourth place Chattanooga Mocs (9-5-3, 6-2-3) at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two Tennessee squads tied in the regular season standings, but the Lady Mocs receive the fourth seed by virtue of a 1-0 victory in double overtime against the Bucs last month. Neither team has won a SoCon tournament match in their history, and the winner will reach the semifinals of this tournament for the first time ever. Thursday will be a busy day as all eight participants will be in action, beginning with #1 Furman battling it out with #8 Western Carolina at 11:00 a.m. The Lady Paladins won the regular season match up over WCU, 6-1. Chattanooga will then face instate rival ETSU to conclude session one. At 5:00 p.m. Thursday, #3 College of Charleston will go against #6 Appalachian State.
