JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 10, 2003) - East Tennessee State senior defensive lineman Brandon Calton (Pennington Gap, Va.) earned his second postseason all-star game invitation as he was selected Wednesday to participate in the Las Vegas All-American Classic. The game will take place on Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. EST from UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. and will be televised live by Fox Sports Net and College Sports Television (CSTV). Calton will be joined in Las Vegas by ETSU teammate Tony Tiller (Lithonia, Ga.), who will also be participating in the game. Calton posted career highs in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks this past season for ETSU. He finished fourth on the Bucs with 75 tackles and was second on the team with 15.5 tackles for losses and 4.5 sacks. Calton tied for fourth in the Southern Conference in TFL's and tied for sixth in the SoCon in sacks. He also had two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked extra point on the season. Calton had a season-high 10 tackles on Nov. 1 against Georgia Southern and had nine in the season-opener at Eastern Michigan on Aug. 28. Following the season, Calton earned All-Southern Conference honors for a second time. "It is a great honor to be selected to the Las Vegas All-American Classic," said Calton Wednesday afternoon. "Once again, I would like to thank God and my family for making all of this possible. I would also like to thank the coaching staff and (ETSU Strength Coach) Lee Morrow for all of their support along the way. Hopefully I can be successful and represent ETSU Football, my family and myself well." The Las Vegas All-American Classic will be Calton's second postseason all-star game, as he was recently invited to participate in the Blue-Gray All-Star Classic Dec. 25 from Troy, Ala. The classic is comprised of top players from all major football conferences around the country. Division I-A players from conferences such as the SEC, Big East, ACC, Big 10, Pac 10, Conference USA, Mountain West and WAC will be represented, as well as players from other divisions. The game will pit West all-stars vs. all-stars from the Eastern United States. There will be 108 players chosen to participate in the classic.
