JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 20, 2005) - One day after leading the East Tennessee State University men's golf team to a Southern Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Regionals, the good news continued for sophomore Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales).

Davies, who was named the SoCon Player of the Year after posting a score of 8-under-par 208 and capturing the SoCon individual title on Tuesday, was named on Wednesday to Europe's 2005 Palmer Cup squad. It will be the second straight year Davies has played in the Palmer Cup, after going 3-1 last year and helping the Europeans defeat the United States at Ballybunion.

The annual Ryder Cup-style competition between American collegiate golfers and their counterparts from Europe will be played June 8-9 on the 7,201 yard, par 72 Whistling Straits Irish Course. The Europeans trail the all-time series, 4-3-1, but have claimed the last two Palmer Cups.

Currently, Davies is the No. 3-ranked player in the country having won four individual championships this season and posting a stroke average of 71. He has fired a remarkable nine sub-70 rounds so far in 2004-05. His 10-stroke advantage at the SoCon Championships was the greatest margin of victory in that event since 1983 when Furman's Brad Faxon won by 11 shots.

"Having the opportunity to play in the Palmer Cup last year was certainly one of the highlights of my summer," said Davies, whose four individual tournament titles this season broke the record of three set by ETSU's Garrett Willis in 1996. "I'm thrilled to get the chance to play in the event again. I can't say enough about that experience. "

The 2004-05 season for Davies and the rest of the Buccaneers continues on May 9 at the UK Derby Invitational in Lexington, Ky., followed by the NCAA Regionals on May 19.
