Davies named Southern Conference Golfer of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 5, 2005) - ETSU's Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) has been named the co-Southern Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for the month of March.  Davies picked up two individual medals in March. A sophomore from Bridgend, Wales, Davies won the Seminole Intercollegiate on March 8, shooting a nine-under-par 207 which included a 67 on day two. He followed up the win with the title at the Gen. Jim Hackley Invitational on March 14, carding a two-under-par 214 en route to the win.

 

Davies was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for those two weeks in which he captured tournament victories and is currently ranked third in the Golfweek national rankings. He is also a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award, which is presented to the top men's college golfer in the country.  Most recently, Davies finished tied for third on the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 6-over-par 222 at the Augusta State Invitational. Davies finished five strokes back of Georgia's Chris Kirk, who took home the top individual medalist honor.
