JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 14, 2004) - Former Science Hill High School and University of Tennessee standout Nick Crowe (Johnson City, Tenn.) has transferred to East Tennessee State for his senior season, Buccaneer head baseball coach Tony Skole announced on Wednesday afternoon. Crowe has been a versatile player over the last three seasons, seeing significant time at catcher, first, second and third base. Playing primarily catcher last season, he tied for fourth on the Vols with a .301 batting average, hitting two homers and driving in 28 runs. Nick also scored 35 runs and went 10-for-12 on stolen base attempts. He also threw out 16-of-49 opposing baserunners (32.7 percent) to rank third in the Southeastern Conference. In 2003, Nick led Tennessee with a .327 batting average while collecting 12 doubles, two home runs, 29 RBIs, 32 runs scored and nine stolen bases. During his freshman campaign for the Vols in 2002, Crowe batted .275 with two home runs, 21 RBIs, 42 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Also an excellent student, Crowe was named to the 2004 SEC Academic Honor Roll and the 2003 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Second Team. At Science Hill, Nick was a three-time all-state, all-region and all-conference selection. He was also a part of the Hilltoppers' state championship team in 1999 and two conference championship squads. He hit .495 with six home runs and 31 stolen bases as a senior while going 7-3 as a pitcher with a 2.91 ERA. Crowe graduated with honors after posting a 3.9 GPA at SHHS. Nick also played on the 2001 USA Junior National Team that won the silver medal at the Pan American Tournament in Cuba. "The addition of Nick Crowe is a tremendous way to top off our recruiting class for the 2005 season," said Skole. "Nick will instantly be considered one of the top players in the Southern Conference. I am extremely happy that he chose East Tennessee State as the place where he wants to play baseball next season. Nick is a fierce competitor and he will instantly make us better. He has already had a very accomplished career, but I am eager to work with him to help him get to that next level. Nick is going to look great in the Blue and Gold."
