JOHNSON CITY Sept. 10, 2004) -- The East Tennessee State University men's basketball team took time to visit with patients at the Children's Hospital at Johnson City Medical Center on Friday. All 13 members of the squad, as well as head coach Murry Bartow and assistant coach Scott Wagers, visited with the children. "We think it's important that our players understand that community service is a major part of the collegiate experience for student-athletes at ETSU," Bartow said. "This is a great experience for us because it gives these children something to smile about. Kids look up to student-athletes, and they like the opportunity to meet them." The men's basketball team has adopted the Children's Hospital at JCMC as its charity for the 2004-05 season. Likewise, every other ETSU team has also chosen a local charity and will spend numerous hours of community service helping these organizations throughout the year. Community service is an importnat part of the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics' mission, which includes academic, athletic and community service success. This is just another example of the Buccaneers' dedication to "Winning ... the RIGHT Way."
