First day results at UNC Softball Triangle Classic

Friday, February 11, 2005

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Feb. 11, 2005) -  The Lady Bucs softball squad began the 2005 season today with a 3-1 victory over ACC powerhouse Virginia and a 3-1 setback versus Radford competing at the UNC Triangle Classic softball tournament.  Courtney Jenkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) allowed just six hits and one earned run, en-route to her first victory of the 2005 season versus Virginia, while Lady Bucs catcher Jessica Lonsinger (Dale City, Va.) had a stellar afternoon from the plate.

The Bucs dropped their first game versus Radford 3-1 in the early morning match-up, however a big turnaround came for ETSU with the impressive 3-1 victory over the Cavaliers in afternoon action.  Jenkins recorder her first victory of the 2005 season allowing just one earned run, while freshman Briana Knight (Brier, Wa.) was an important part of the ETSU victory with her offensive performance.

"I was very proud of the way our team came back to rally with the big win over Virginia this afternoon," Lady Bucs head coach Amy Fuller said.  "Today was a great opening day for the 2005 season and we are very excited for the year ahead of us."

The Bucs return to action tomorrow versus UNC-Wilmington at 1:00 p.m. and against host UNC tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.  Visit ETSUBucs.com for game recaps and scores.
