                 SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Feb. 11, 2005) - East Tennessee State and College of Charleston tied for the top position in the 2005 Southern Conference men's tennis preseason poll as voted on by the league's coaches.

            ETSU picked up five first place votes, while the College of Charleston gathered six. Both teams finished with 94 total points, tying the two schools for the top spot. In the finals of the 2004 men's tennis championships, the top-seeded Buccaneers outlasted the third-seeded Cougars, 4-2.

Furman garnered 85 points for third place, while Georgia Southern (58) and Appalachian State (56) rounded out the top five. Coming in at the sixth spot was Chattanooga with 49 points followed by Davidson with 37 points and Wofford with 36 points. Elon finished with 34 total points, while The Citadel (33) and UNC Greensboro (30) finished up the list.

Conference play will begin for the Bucs on Mar. 3 when they will face the College of Charleston at 2:00 p.m.
