Fiuri and Ochoa advance at USC Fall Invitational

Columbia, S.C. (Oct. 15, 2004) - Seniors Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) and Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Columbia) advanced to the second round in their respective brackets on Friday at the University of South Carolina Fall Invitational.

            Fiuri defeated Brandon Johnson of Radford 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 to advance in the A-2 singles bracket, while Ochoa defeated Gabriel Delarue of Campbell 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to advance in the B-1 singles bracket. Fiuri will face Austin Fenn of Elon tomorrow, while Ochoa will face Sebastian Bredberg of Elon.

            Sophomore Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay) also competed in singles action for the Bucs, but fell to Felipe Lima of Belmont 6-3, 6-4 in the A-1 singles bracket. He now moves to the consolation rounds for Saturday's play.

            In doubles action, Insaurralde paired with Fiuri in the A-1 bracket, but fell to Arvid Puranen and Stephane Rod of Virginia Tech 8-6.

            The Bucs will continue singles competition tomorrow with day two of the tournament beginning at 8:00a.m.
