ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 28, 2004) - Amanda Wiles recorded her second triple-double of the season as UNC Asheville had four players with at least 14 kills en route to a 30-19, 30-26, 28-30, 28-30, 15-13 volleyball victory over East Tennessee State Thursday night at the Justice Center.  With the loss ETSU falls to 4-19, 3-9 SoCon for the year.

 

Asheville took game one easily building leads of 15-5 and 22-8 before finally winning 30-19. The Bulldogs hit .353 in the opener while holding ETSU (4-19) to a .125 attack percentage. The Lady Bucs showed marked improvement in the second game by taking a 13-7 lead early, but UNCA battled back to tie the game at 18. It remained back and forth until 23-23 when Asheville went on a 6-2 run to gain game-point at 29-25. After an ETSU point, Lambert recorded her third-straight kill to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.

 

Andrea Piercy (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) led the Lady Bucs comeback in the third and fourth games as she finished the night with 16 kills and 15 digs. Callie Kiselich (Colorado Springs, Co.) had 16 kills and a .308 hitting percentage out of the middle and Sara Scandiffio (Purcellville, Va.) had a match-high 17 kills despite missing part of game two with an injury. ETSU led most of the way in games three and four holding off late Asheville rallies to win by identical 30-28 scores.

 

In the finale, Asheville scored the first two points behind the serve of Wiles and never trailed. The Bulldogs led 8-6 at the switch and forced an ETSU timeout at 12-8. The Bulldogs had four match points leading 14-10, but the Lady Bucs continued to battle scoring three-straight points before Butler's block ended the match. ETSU out blocked UNCA 12-7 but the Bulldogs had seven service aces and eight more digs than the Lady Bucs.

 

ETSU will travel to Georgia State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match and will travel to Radford on Nov. 2 to game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
