Women's hoops falls to Cougars

Wednesday, February 16, 2005

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Feb. 16, 2005) - Despite a season-high 18 rebounds and 20 points by Lady Bucs forward Tiffani Mayes (Sumter, S.C.), the ETSU women's basketball team (9-15, 7-10 SoCon) dropped a 55-54 decision to College of Charleston.  After a slow start, the Bucs posted a strong rally in the final minutes of the first half, while beginning the second half on an 11-0 run, however the Cougar defense held strong and took the conference victory.  B.J. Banjo (Baltimore, Md.) added 17 points and three assists for the Bucs, while Candace Gibson (Warner Robins, Ga.) added 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the loss.

For the game, ETSU shot 40 percent from the floor including a 14-26 effort in the second half and a 3-7 showing from beyond the arc.  The Cougars shot just 32 percent for the contest, however a strong showing from the free throw line (12-14) gave them the slight advantage for the victory.

ETSU returns to action Feb. 19 on the road versus the UNC Greensboro Spartans in a 3:00 p.m. match-up.
