Mayes captures athlete of the month honors for January

(Feb. 3, 2005) - With her outstanding performance during the month of January, including scoring the 1,000th point of her career, Lady Bucs senior forward Tiffani Mayes (Sumter, S.C.) has been tabbed the Southern Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Month for the month of January.  The announcement came from the conference office in Spartanburg, S.C. today.  In reports through Jan. 31st, Mayes ranks 17th in the nation averaging 19.8 points per game, while her 7.9 rebounds and 34.2 minutes per game are also team-high's. 

 

Mayes led the conference in scoring in January, averaging 20.6 points and 7.6 rebounds in nine games. The forward had back-to-back games with 30 or more points, including a SoCon season-high of 32 points against Davidson on Jan. 8. She also picked up a double-double of 30 points and 13 rebounds against Western Carolina on Jan. 20, while shooting 50.7 percent from the floor, picking up 19 assists, 13 blocks and 12 steals.

 

The Bucs return to action when they travel to Davidson, N.C. to face the Davidson Wildcats Feb. 5 at 3:00 p.m.  The game will be broadcast via ETSUBucs.com on the Mountain States Health Alliance Buccaneer Sports Network with pre-game beginning at 2:00 p.m.
