JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Mar. 15, 2005) - ETSU women's soccer student-athlete Jennifer Fields was selected to receive the Faculty Award in Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Sciences based on her distinguished excellence in academics. She will be recognized as the recipient of this award and as an honors graduate at the Academic Excellence Convocation, which will be held April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Martha Street Culp Auditorium of the D.P. Culp Center.

A Mount Airy, Maryland native, Fields is a senior in sports management with a minor in sociology and will complete her degree this May. During her career Fields has been named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, dean's list, Buccaneer Honor Roll, and holds a cumulative 3.52 GPA.

As a member of ETSU women's soccer team Fields also saw success and shared time as a midfielder and a defender. During her career, she posted 12 points off of 6 goals. Among those six goals is the game-winning goal against Winthrop University in the first minute of play during the 2003 season. Fields has played and started in every game of her career for a total of 70 career starts.

"Jen Fields is a great example of what East Tennessee State University Soccer stands for and what our ultimate focus is in this program," commented ETSU women's soccer Head Coach Heather Henson.  "Her dedication to doing what is right and working toward positive consequences is a tribute to her family and her as a person. We have been blessed that she devoted herself to our soccer family and strived daily to make it as successful as possible both on and off the field. She has played a major role in the development of this program and the future success that we will enjoy. She has joined a growing list of players who have excelled both academically and athletically, giving us great pleasure and raising the bar for future players to come."
