Buccaneer soccer ends in 2-2 tie with Bulldogs

Tuesday, September 28, 2004

Charleston, S.C. (Sept. 26, 2004) ETSU (3-3-1, 0-0-1 SoCon) and The Citadel (2-5-1, 0-1-1 SoCon) ended their game Sunday in a double overtime draw with a score of 2-2 at Johnson Hagood Stadium. It was the first SoCon match of the season for the Buccaneers.

The Bulldogs and Buccaneers fought to a 0-0 tie to end the first period. Seven minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs came out on top when junior Miriam Crawford scored the first goal of the game. Senior Shawna Hartman then picked up a ricochet off of the crossbar and put the ball into the net to make the score 2-0.

The Buccaneers finally answered with only 13 minutes left in the second half. Sophomore Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) netted the ball for ETSU after a pass from junior Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.). With only eight minutes to play, junior Erin Ferris (Columbus, Ohio) crossed the ball, which found the foot of freshman Aubree Snyder (Reading, Pa.) to tie up the game and send it into overtime.

The Dogs and Buccaneers battled it out to a draw in overtime as the rain came pouring down on the field.

Up next, the Buccaneers travel to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles on Friday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m.
