ETSU cheerleaders brighten day for kids at spirit gala
Wednesday, February 01, 2006
The annual Spirit Gala, sponsored by the Mountain States Foundation, includes a carnival for young children, character dinner and an adult gala event to raise funds for the Children's Hospital. "This event is a great way to get local organizations involved in helping out a great cause," said Clarinda Jeanes, the board member for special events for the Mountain States Foundation.
A circus theme gave the cheerleader's the opportunity to dress up like clowns and interact with the children as they enjoyed the event. "We like doing things for kids," said co-captain Whitney Keylon. "It makes them happy and so we are thrilled to be a part of it." The girls walked around the event talking with the children and taking pictures with them.
"It feels really good to be able to make the kids smile and to get to help the hospital to raise money," said junior Kari Parkey.
The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.
