McNamara, Shaw play well; Bucs stand 8th after second round

Saturday, November 05, 2005

ROCKY FACE, Ga. (Nov. 5, 2005) - Sophomore Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland) fired a season-best, 3-under-par 69 and classmate Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) provided a 1-under 71 to lead the ETSU men's golf team to an 8th-place standing Saturday after two rounds at the Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech at The Farm Golf Club.

On the team leaderboard, ETSU trails Georgia and Georgia State by 11 strokes, as those two teams share first place. On the individual leaderboard, Georgia's Chris Kirk holds a 1-stroke advantage over Georgia State's Mark Haastrup and Joel Sjoholm. McNamara and Shaw are currently tied for 17th, seven strokes back of Kirk.

While ETSU's sophomores were a bright spot on Saturday, junior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) struggled for the first time in a long time. Davies, the No. 3-ranked player in the country, entered the day in contention for the individual title but fired a 6-over 78 to drop into a tie for 35th. Meanwhile, Buc freshmen Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) and Adam Hodkinson (Dore, England) played well, firing 73 and 76, respectively.

Play in the Carpet Capital Collegiate will conclude with third and final round play Sunday. Visit ETSUBucs.com for a complete wrap up following each day's action, or visit GolfStat.com for results immediately following play.
