Bucs tennis defeats Stetson, 5-2

Deland, Fla. (March 8, 2006) - The No. 65 ETSU men's tennis team remains perfect in conference play defeating the Stetson Hatters today, 5-2. The Bucs are now 11-5 on the year while the Hatters fall to 8-4 with the loss.

 

Action began with the Buccaneers claiming the doubles point with wins in all three positions. At the No. 1 doubles position, junior Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and freshman Juan Crosa (Asuncion, Paraguay) defeated Marcus Echtler and Serguei Boulanov, 8-6. In No. 2 doubles, senior Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) defeated Joey Jones and Eddie Majcher, 8-0, while in No. 3 doubles, freshman Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and sophomore Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Mario Cayo and Birger Soiland, 8-1 .

 

ETSU again dominated in singles action, winning four of the six matches, with all of them coming in straight sets. In No. 1 singles, Oscar Posada was defeated by Serguei Boulanov, 6-3, 6-4, while Felix Insaurralde defeated Mario Cayo, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 position. In the No. 3 slot, Juan Crosa was defeated by Joey Jones after a hard fought match, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10). Freshman Enrique Olivares defeated Birger Soiland, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 position.  In the No. 5 position Lisandro Picardo defeated Peter Dzuba, 6-1, 6-4, while in the No. 6 position Sebastian Serrano defeated Trevor Bach, 6-1, 6-2.

 

The Buccaneers next match is scheduled for tomorrow, March 9, against Florida Atlantic in Orlando, Fla. at 1 p.m.
