Volobueva named A-Sun Player of the Week

Macon, Ga. (March 28, 2006) -Sophomore Elena Volobueva earned her first Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award after going 4-0 in singles play over the weekend.

 

Volobueva knocked off Mercer's Lauriane Auvergne on Thursday, Monica Walser of Gardner-Webb on Friday, UNC-Charlotte's Ali Piacente, and Western Carolina's Susanna Sjokvist. Volobueva also saw victories in all four of her doubles matches.

 

The Barcelona, Spain native is 12-2 in singles, 6-0 in doubles, and 5-0 in league play. She helped guide the Lady Bucs to an undefeated conference regular season, the first ever in school history.

 

The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Tuesday during the 2006 women's tennis campaign.

 

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
