ETSU women's tennis defeats Tennessee Tech, 6-1
Sunday, March 05, 2006 Johnson City, Tenn. (March 5, 2006) - The ETSU women's tennis team continued their winning ways, defeating the Tennessee Tech Golden Eaglettes, 6-1. The Lady Bucs improve to 9-2 on the season, while Tennessee Tech falls to 1-3. In doubles action, Olya Batsula ( In singles action, Masha Ilina was defeated by Alet Boonzaaier, 4-6, 7-5 (8) at the No. 1 position, while Olya Batsula defeated Marina Tasheva, 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 2 position. In No. 3 singles, Sandie Knight defeated Margot Carter, 6-0, 6-4. Freshman Tara Byrne defeated Marina Ruiz de Gauna, 6-1, 7-6 at the No. 4 slot, and in the No. 5 position, senior Sylwia Ziolkowska defeated Kay Ngiam, 6-0, 6-0, while Vita Moskaliova defeated Maia Semerdjieva, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles position. "We played well today. We had a little hiccup at the No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles. Tech is very tough at the 1, 2, and 3 positions. Hopefully Elena (Volobueva) will be back in the lineup soon.," said head coach Steve Brooks.
