JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 1, 2005) - Senior Sara Scandiffio (Purcellville, Va.) posted a .591 hitting percentage with 15 kills on Saturday, as the Lady Buccaneer volleyball team remained undefeated in Atlantic Sun play, besting Gardner-Webb, 3-1, in Brooks Gym.  Teammate Sarah Buhr (Stockton, Calif.) also had an impressive afternoon, hitting .333 with a match-high 16 kills, as the Lady Bucs improved to 10-5, 2-0 in the A-Sun.

"We know when the ball is in Sara's hands in she's on, she can really control the offense, and it was evident by her numbers today" said ETSU head coach Lindsey Devine post victory.

Including Scandiffio and Buhr, a total of four Lady Bucs recorded double-digit kills with Brittany Kessel (Libertyville, Ohio) belting 13, and Jennifer Sartor (Toronto, Ontario) adding 12.  Kessel also tallied 27 assists on the afternoon, just behind Jennifer Emerson (Santa Clara, Calif) with a team-best 34.

Buhr led a balanced Buccaneer defense with nine digs, followed by Callie Kiselich (Colorado Springs, Colo), Emerson, and Katie Longden (Fort Dogde, Iowa) with eight.

"Again, it was a total team effort," said Devine.  "We got good numbers from everybody."

The Lady Bucs got out to a quick start, leading the Runnin' Bulldogs by as many as seven points in game one, before picking up the 30-25 win.  ETSU out-hit GWU .325 to .276 in the frame, as Buhr led the Buccaneer offense with six kills, along with five from Kiselich.  Kiselich belted nine kills on the day, swinging .346.

Gardner-Webb got the best of ETSU in game two, hitting .286 to ETSU's .119.   The Lady Bucs got out to a 15-11 advantage before the Bulldogs tallied five-consecutive points to take the 16-15 lead, and eventually pulled away with the 30-25 victory.

ETSU would rebound with their best output of the afternoon in game three hitting .469 with 19 kills and a mere four miscues, while Gardner-Webb dropped to .147.  Sartor and Scandiffio led the Lady Bucs in the frame, tallying five kills each, in the 30-23 win.  GWU would never lead in game three, as the Bucs held the advantage by as many as 10 points.

GWU challenged in game four, holding a 15-12 lead.  With the score knotted at 16, the Lady Bucs took to the offensive and never looked back, putting the Bulldogs away 30-23.  Kessel posted five of ETSU's 19 kills in the game.

GWU got solid performances from Audra Harrison, who tallied 11 kills, and Elizabeth Maxwell with 10.  Bulldog setter Carrie Brinkley recorded a match-high 35 assists.

Today's game ends a three-game homestand for the Lady Bucs, who will hit the road to face Wofford, on Oct. 5.  ETSU will return home on Oct. 8, starting another three-game homestretch with Lincoln Memorial at 4:00 p.m., in Brooks Gym.
