JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 7, 2005) - Senior Sara Scandiffio (Purcellville, Va.) recorded her fourth solo block of the night, securing the winning point in East Tennesee State's 16-14 win in game five of Wednesday night's 3-2 win over Wofford, in ETSU's home opener in Brooks Gymnasium.  The Lady Bucs improve to 3-1 on the season as the Terriers drop to 3-2.

It was a battle all night as Wofford took the first game, 30-26.  The Lady Bucs fought back to win game two by a 30-26 tally, before narrowly dropping game three, 30-28.  ETSU then proved they were out to win, hammering the Terriers, 30-11 in the fourth frame.

"We just didn't give up," said head coach Lindsey Devine following the win.  "In game four, we made it evident we were going to make a statement in our gym, in front of our crowd.  We got challenged in game five and just pushed back and never gave up."

With the score standing at 14-13 in game five, and a Terrier win just one point away, sophomore Callie Kiselich (Colorado Spings, Colo.) came through with a big kill from Jennifer Emerson, knotting the score at 14-14.  Following an attacking error by Wofford, ETSU stood with a 15-14 advantage, as Scandiffio denied a Wofford attack attempt for the win.

"Sara is a blocking machine and has the potential to change a game," said Devine of the senior.  "She swung well, and was a great force for us all night."

Scandiffio belted 16 kills on the game, along with four block assists and four block solos.  The Lady Bucs had four players in double figures in the kill column, with Kiselich and Sara Buhr (Stockton, Calif.) chipping in 12 apiece, and Jennifer Sartor (Toronto, Ontario) adding 11.  Also coming through for ETSU was setter Jennifer Emerson (Tracy, Calif.) leading the team with 46 assists, along with 17 digs.  Buhr was another clutch defender, tallying 16 digs.

"Jennifer Emerson stepped up huge," said Devine of her junior setter.  "She ran a great offense and did the work on both offense and defense.  She really just kept elevating our play."

Both Angela Berry and Brittany Thompson contributed 14 kills to the Wofford offense as Terrier setter Rhea DeJesus dished out 41 assists.

The Lady Bucs hit another early season invitational this weekend, as the travel to Davidson for the Mizuno Wildcat Tournament.  ETSU's opening match against host Davidson is slated for Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
