Lady Bucs in for A-Sun battle at Belmont Saturday

Friday, February 17, 2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 17, 2006) - Saturday's matchup, pitting ETSU vs. Belmont, will be a battle between two of the A-Sun heavy weights with Belmont (17-5, 13-2 A-Sun) leading the conference, and ETSU (17-5, 11-4 A-Sun) sitting in third place.  Both teams have already clinched spots in the upcoming championship tournament.  Game time is set for 3 p.m. CST, in Curb Event Center.

The Bruins have only two A-Sun losses this season, one of them coming at the hands of the Lady Bucs .  ETSU upped Belmont, 66-52, in Johnson City on Dec. 1.  After dropping two A-Sun contests in the row several weeks ago, the Lady Bucs have rebounded with three-straight victories.  Belmont, however, has been unstoppable since early January, rattling off nine-straight victories.

Scouting the Bruins ...

Rookie Alysha Clark leads a high-powered Bruin offense, averaging 20.4 ppg.  The freshman also leads the team on the boards at 10.5 rebounds a clip.  Tonisha Jones and Jenny Conkle are next in line in the scoring ranks, averaging 9.5, and 9.0 ppg, respectively.  Jessica Bobbit is the team's second-best rebounder, pulling in 6.5 boards a game.  The Bruins, on a nine-game win streak, have been especially tough at home this season, posting a 9-1 overall record, and a perfect 8-0 in the A-Sun.  The Bruins' only A-Sun losses this season have come against ETSU and an overtime loss at Mercer.

The Series ...

ETSU won game one of the season series, 66-52, in its first-ever A-Sun contest, on Dec. 1, in Johnson City.  The programs have met a total of four times over the years, with ETSU holding the 3-1 advantage.
