Lady Bucs Down Lipscomb 85-59

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2006) - Trailing by one at the half, the Lady Bucs rallied to drop Lipscomb, 85-59, Thursday in Allen Arena. Led by senior Candace Gibson's (Warner Robins, Ga.) career-high 28 points, ETSU improves to 15-7, 11-4 in the A-Sun. Lipscomb drops to 6-16 on the season, 5-10 in conference.
The Lady Bucs jumped out to an early lead with three treys from B.J. Banjo (Baltimore, Md.), Brooke Wilhoit (Sevierville, Tenn.), and Michele DeVault (Columbus, Ohio) within the first three minutes of play to put ETSU up by five, 9-4.
But with a 17-point effort in the first half by Lipscomb's Miriam McAlister and with a lead of as many as four points, the Lady Bucs battled to within one point going into the locker room, 37-36.
The Lady Bucs refused to go away in the second half, however, regaining the lead at the 19:28 mark with a layup by Candace Gibson. ETSU then extended their lead to 16 at the 12:47 mark on a three-pointer from DeVault and never looked back.
Gibson exploded on the court with 22 second-half points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Also contributing for the Lady Bucs were DeVault and Banjo with 16, and 12 points respectively. Nichelle Akers (Sumter, S.C.) led ETSU with 9 boards. Miriam McAlister posted 23 points and nine boards for the Lady Bisons, followed by Penny Jones with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Bisons had a 45.5 percent performance from the field during on the night, while the Lady Bucs posted a 50 percent effort.
The Lady Bucs continue their tour of the Music City on Saturday, when they take on the Belmont Lady Bruins at the Curb Event Center on Feb. 18. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
