BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (November 3, 2005) - The ETSU women's soccer team ended their season in a heartbreaking loss to Jacksonville University, 2-1, on Thursday evening in the A-Sun conference tournament at Gardner-Webb. ETSU ends the season at 8-11-1, 4-6-0 in the A-Sun.
"The team did exactly what we needed to do, we created a lot of opportunities, but we need to get mentally and physically tougher for those last five minutes of the game," said head women's soccer coach Heather Henson. "We fought through that first goal and stayed focused but it just didn't go our way."
The score was knotted 0-0 in the first half. ETSU got off two shots to JU's one but neither team was able to find the back of the net. In the second half things turned around as Adrian Mobley (Framingham, Mass.) got the Bucs on the board first at the 28:48 mark off a kick assisted by Alexandra Schwark (Strongsville, Ohio). This was Mobley's second goal of the season.
JU answered back when A-Sun Freshman of the Year, Keri Zwikker kicked a shot which was deflected off an ETSU player to tie the score at one a piece. Then with only nine seconds left in the game, JU's Emilie Howland got past Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) to give the Dolphins the victory. This was Howlands first goal of the season. ETSU outshot JU 15 to 3 on the night.
