JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 13, 2005) -  The ETSU women's soccer team defeated defending Atlantic Sun Conference champions Campbell, 4-1, Thursday night at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.  The Buccaneers improve to 7-7-0, 4-3-0 A-Sun, while the Camels drop to 6-6-0, 4-2-0 A-Sun. 

 

"Beating last years conference champs takes us to the next level in our confidence.  We've got to keep working hard like we did tonight so we can earn a spot in the conference tournament," said head women's soccer coach Heather Henson. 

 

Campbell's Ashley Naylor got the Camels on the board first off a corner kick at the 30:39 mark.  ETSU answered back two minutes later as freshman Ashley Craig (Lakeland, Fla.) knotted the score at one a piece.  Then senior Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) charged down the field and gave the Buccaneers the lead at the 41:37.  This marked Ashton's tenth goal of the season. 

 

ETSU earned six corner kicks on the night, two of which resulted in goals for the Bucs.  At the 80:21 mark, junior Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) scored off a Craig corner kick.  Three minutes later, senior Meghan Morris (Bowie, Md.) found the back of the net to give the Bucs the victory. 

 

"We needed a goal and the placement of our cross, and the structure of our runs were right.  We did a great job coming off those corners tonight," Henson said.

 

ETSU outshot Campbell, 16-14 on the night.  Freshman goalkeeper Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) recorded six saves for the Bucs. 

 

The Lady Bucs are home again on Sunday, October 16, at 2 p.m. against Gardner-Webb.
