EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 16, 2005) - Senior Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 76th minute to lead ETSU past Mount St. Mary's 3-2 in nonconference women's soccer action on Friday.

Ashton handed the Buccaneers (3-3) the victory after the Mount (2-4-1) came back to knot the match at 2 when she found the twine at the 75:08 mark. Ashton, who is ETSU's leading scorer with four tallies, also posted a goal to start the second half.

Freshman Ashley Craig (Lakeland, Fla.) dished out the assist on the decisive goal while junior Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) handed the Buccaneers a 1-0 advantage in the second minute of the match. Sophomore Kelli Devine tallied two goals in the game for Mount.

After ETSU saw its two-goal advantage disappear, the Buccaneers turned to their leading scorer and she found the back of the net late in the second half to lead ETSU to the win in the first meeting between the two programs.

"Today was a team that showed heart and determination to battle through and get the victory,' said head women's soccer coach Heather Henson. "We had some seniors that stepped up and played a real good game."

Craig served the ball in on a corner kick from the left before Ashton headed the game-winner into the top netting with 14:52 remaining.

Fulcher got the Buccaneers off to the fast start when she lofted a shot from the top left of the penalty box that found the top of the right corner 1:05 into the match.

Ashton then increased the Buccaneers margin to two goals when she scored off a Rachel Layer helper at 47:55. Mount St. Mary's then capitalized on a foul in the penalty box 23 seconds later. Devine punched the free kick into the right netting to cut the margin to 2-1. The sophomore tied the contest at 2 when she scored off a Doyle assist at the 59:28 mark.

Freshman Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) made four saves in the winning effort for the Buccaneers.

ETSU is on the road again on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against George Mason University.
