NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2007) - Sophomore guard Courtney Pigram (Memphis) tied the ETSU single game record for 3-point goals, hitting on 8-of-12 from beyond the arc to score a career high 34 points and lift the ETSU men's basketball team past Atlantic Sun Conference rival Lipscomb 71-66 Saturday afternoon inside Allen Arena.

With the win, ETSU made it a Nashville sweep, dropping Belmont and Lipscomb over the lsat three days to improve to 16-7 overall, 10-1 in A-Sun action, and build their lead to three games over third-place Lipscomb (13-9, 7-4) in the regular season standings. While Pigram was nearly unstoppable, senior forward Brad Nuckles (Council, Va.) continued his stellar play, picking up his sixth straight double-double with 14 rebounds and 11 points.

"My gosh, what do you say about Courtney," said ETSU head coach Murry Bartow, whose team won its eighth straight game. "The guy is a confident player and when you are a shooter like Courtney is, he can basically take over a game. We stopped running plays for him because he was just creating shots on his own. One more time our guys just found a way to get it done late in a tight game."

While Pigram stood out from start to finish, his biggest shot of the game came after a media timeout at the 3:32 mark of the second half, after Lipscomb had just tied the score at 56-56. His eighth 3-pointer of the game came just 18 seconds later, sparking a 10-0 run by the Bucs that dashed the Bisons come back hopes. Most remarkable about Pigram's shot was Lipscomb leaving him wide open in the corner.

In the first half, Pigram powered the ETSU offensive attack early, scoring 13 of the team's first 15 points and helping the Bucs build a lead of 21-12 with 9:52 to go before the break. The nine-point cushion did not last long, though, as Lipscomb rallied with eight straight unanswered points to make it 21-20 with 8:24 remaining.

ETSU responded, outscoring the Bisons 12-3 the rest of the way to take a 33-23 halftime lead thanks to a bomb 3-pointer from Pigram with 38 seconds left. Pigram finished with 16 first half points, the Bucs out-rebounded Lipscomb 28-17, and held the Bisons to just 27 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, ETSU built a lead of as many as 14 points, but to Lipscomb's credit the Bisons battled back to tie the game in the final four minutes. Lipscomb led by five early in the game, but never held the lead the rest of the way.

For the game, ETSU shot a sparkling 60 percent from beyond the arc, held the Bisons to 36 percent shooting (24-of-67), and out-rebounded them 46-39. Lipscomb got a team-high 22 points from senior guard Trey Williams, while junior forward Eddie Ard posted 13 points.

Pigram's eight 3-pointers tied the program's single game record for 3-pointers in a game set by James Anthony in a Feb. 21 win over UNC Greensboro during the 2004-05 season.

The Bucs will return home for a Feb. 2 matchup with Gardner-Webb, followed by a Feb. 5 game with Campbell. For more on ETSU men's basketball, visit ETSUBucs.com.
