ETSU softball announces 2nd annual Blue/Gold game

                JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 12, 2006) - The ETSU softball team announced Tuesday they will be hosting the second annual Blue/Gold game on Saturday, September 30. First pitch for the 10-inning contest is slated for noon at Metro Kiwanis Park. Following the game the team will be holding a BBQ at the ballpark.

 

            Head coach Andrea Mangrum is heading into her second season, where she helped the Lady Bucs finish the 2006 campaign as one of the hottest teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference, winning seven of their last eight games. ETSU made a deep run in the A-Sun Tournament with a third place finish and falling one game short of the championship.

 

            The 2007 Lady Buc roster includes senior star Stephanie Gaynord (Manassas, Va.), who smashed three ETSU all-time records last season with 11 homeruns, 46 runs scored and a .593 slugging percentage. Gaynord ended the 2006 campaign with an 11-game hit streak and was named to the A-Sun All-Tournament Team.

 

Returning with Gaynord is sophomore Mary Catherine Vercoe (Signal Mountain, Tenn) who earned a spot on the A-Sun All-Freshman Team last season. During her rookie season, Vercoe started 56 games for the Lady Bucs and led the team with 10 wins.
