BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (March 27, 2007) - The 57th ranked ETSU men's tennis team picked up their fourth straight victory as they dropped Gardner Webb, 7-0 on Tuesday. With the victory the Bucs improve to 17-4 on the season and are 7-0 in A-Sun action, while Gardner Webb falls to 8-10, 4-3.

 

The Bucs took a 1-0 lead as they swept the doubles. In the No. 1 position, Travis Sandlant (Werribee, Australia) and Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) defeated Evgeny Selesarev and Gabe Veiga, 8-2, while Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) picked up their sixth straight victory as they breezed by Kim Ellis and Taylor Ferrier, 8-2. Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) and Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) completed the sweep as they defeated Grant Van Rensburg and Roberto Vasques, 8-2 in the third position.

 

In singles action, Burmazovic defeated Evgeny Slesarev, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(11-9) in the No. 1 position, while Olivares cruised past Roberto Vasques, 6-3, 6-2 in the second slot. In the No. 3 position, Serrano defeated Kim Ellis, 6-1, 6-3 as senior Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) breezed by Gabe Veiga, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot. Competing in the No. 5 slot, Ahlgren dropped Grant Van Rensburg, 6-0, 6-2, while Isaza defeated Rafael Altmeyer, 6-0, 6-2 in the sixth position.  

 

"The team played extremely well compared to our last match. Our performance was much improved, the attitude was great and the team performed much better. My hope is that we can maintain this level for the rest of the season," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.
