JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 29, 2006) - Hispanic children from the Tri-Cities came together for an evening of sports and recreation when the ETSU men's tennis team hosted a soccer and basketball clinic sponsored by Sports for All.

Sports for All is a program organized by athletes and is dedicated to the development and recreation of Hispanic children in the region. "The idea is to motivate the kids, through sports, to stay in school," said Migrant Education Program Coordinator Maria Pestalardo. "By participating in these clinics the kids can see a role model in the players."

"We have fun playing with the kids," said junior Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina). "It's also a great way to get the Hispanic community in our area involved in sports."

Around forty children attended the clinic which took place Monday night in Memorial Center. The children were divided into groups according to age and each member of the tennis team was assigned to a group where they played soccer or basketball.

It was the third time this month the Bucs participated in the clinics. "Since everyone on the team is international it's good to be able to give back," said Assistant Coach Johan Dorfh. "By being here hosting the clinics the players recognize the opportunity they have been given to play tennis and go to school here."

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from it student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.
