Women's Tennis announces signing of Sheets

Monday, November 13, 2006

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (November 13, 2006) - ETSU women's tennis coach Steve Brooks recently announced that Virginia standout Tara Sheets (Weber City, Va.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Bucs for the 2007-08 season.

Sheets, a highly-rated junior player, has a combined 101-1 singles and doubles record in the state of Virginia, with the one loss coming in the state singles finals her freshman year. She has helped lead the Gate City Blue Devils to three team championships and was the singles state champion for both 2005 and 2006. Sheets has also been ranked as high as No. 106 in the nation, the Top 10 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and the Top 5 in the state of Virginia.

"I am very excited to have Tara come play at ETSU.  It says a lot for East Tennessee State University and the athletics department when a great local standout wants to stay in the area to attend college," said Brooks. "Her high school accomplishments prove she knows how to win and at 5' 10" she will help us win many doubles points as well.

"I think Tara will also excel in the classroom, she is already accepted into school but is retaking her SAT because she thinks she can do better. That says a lot about her attitude toward her education.  Tara will be a great addition to the ETSU Women's Tennis winning tradition," added Brooks.

The Lady Bucs begin the 2007 season on January 19 as they take on Eastern Kentucky and Murray State. Follow all Lady Bucs action this season by visiting www.etsubucs.com.
