BLACKSBURG, Va. (October 6, 2006) - The ETSU women's tennis team wrapped up the first day of play at the Virginia Tech Fall Invitational. The three-day tournament features teams from eight different schools.
In Flight B singles, Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico) advanced to the semifinals after Lauren Tomoroy of Furman defaulted and then cruised to an easy win over Radford's Alexandra Spector, 6-3, 6-2. She will square off against Natalie Kretzer of Virginia Tech.
Competing in Flight C singles, Brittany Stewart (Brentwood, Tenn.) fell in the round of 16 to Lauren Graham of James Madison, 6-4, 6-4. In the back draw she defeated Rebecca Morse-Karzan of Mary Washington, 8-6 to advance to the back draw semifinals. She is set to take on either Radford's Jessica Nixon or Amy Sheetz of Mary Washington.
In doubles action the freshmen duo fell to Marshall's Kashelkina and Lock, 8-0. They will have a bye in the first round of consolation play and will face either Bair/Thompson of Furman or Khoor/Napier of James Madison
"Overall it was a good day, but a very long day because of all the rain. I thought we did pretty well and we're excited to get back out there tomorrow, "said head coach Steve Brooks.
