Lady Bucs close out regular season on Sunday against Mercer

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March. 3, 2007) - The ETSU women's basketball team will close out its 2006-07 regular season on Sunday afternoon when they host Mercer inside Memorial Center. Seniors Holly Moring (Irmo, S.C.) and Brooke Wilhoit (Sevierville, Tenn.) will be honored before the game as they close out their collegiate career at ETSU. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.

 

With a win on Sunday, the Lady Bucs will extend their home winning streak to seven games, marking the first time since the 1998-99 season they have accomplished the feat. ETSU won its sixth consecutive home game on Friday afternoon with a, 61-53, victory over Stetson. Junior Nichelle Akers (Sumter, S.C.) led the team with 10 points, and freshman Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) led all players with 11 rebounds. The Lady Bucs have won 11 of their last 12 home games dating back to last season.

 

            Mercer snapped a four-game losing streak by rallying back to defeat the Lady Owls, 55-50, on Friday evening in Kennesaw. The Bears erased a 30-25 halftime deficit thanks to solid play by Nicole Leanord who finished with 16 points and five rebounds, while Chelsea Seabron just missed a double-double with her 11-point, nine rebound effort. Mercer is led by TaShera Lewis who is averaging 10.9 points per game.

 

            ETSU knocked off Mercer 56-29 in the A-Sun opener this season in Macon, Ga. The 29 points allowed was the lowest point total since they only gave up 28 points to Milligan during the 1973-74 season. The Lady Bucs were led by Kelly Turman's (Atlanta) 12 points, while Jenny Norman (Peachtree City, Ga.) tied a career-high with nine rebounds. The all-time series is tied at four.
