Lady Bucs spend Thanksgiving morning volunteering at the Up & At 'Em Turkey Trot

Thursday, November 23, 2006

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 23, 2006) - The ETSU women's basketball enjoyed a break from its busy practice schedule to help volunteer at the 2006 Up & At ‘Em Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving morning.

The 5K race which began at 8:30 a.m., started at Cardinal Park and finished inside Memorial Stadium. Members of the Lady Bucs were designated to certain posts along the course to help guide the runners along the way and give their support. About 300 runners pre-registered for the race, and 200 more were expected to sign up before the race this morning.

"It's always nice to have the chance for our team to go and help out with the community," said head coach Karen Kemp. "The community is always supporting us, and I want my girls to know there is more to life than basketball by helping those who need it most."

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.
