JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 30, 2006) - With three first half goals and a strong Buccaneer defense, the ETSU women's soccer team picked up its second conference win as they sank the Jacksonville Dolphins, 4-1 at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex. The Bucs are improve to 3-6-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Atlantic Sun conference while the Dolphins fall to 5-6-0 overall and 0-3-0.

ETSU jumped out to an early lead in the first half as sophomore Rachel Layer (Bel Air, Md.) connected with Meredith Goldman (Knoxville, Tenn.) for her first goal on the season in the eighth minute of play.

The Bucs then took the 2-0 advantage a mere 14 minutes later when Jordan Monty (Dallas, Texas) netted her sixth goal of the season on a pass from Layer.

With two minutes remaining in the first half, Layer connected with senior Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) for her second goal of the night to give the Bucs a 3-0 advantage going into half time.

During the second half of play, ETSU continued to battle as Fulcher put the Bucs on the board again on a penalty kick five minutes into the period.

Jacksonville's loan goal came from Emilie Howland in the 73rd minute of play.

The Bucs outshot Jacksonville 12-10 and had the advantage on corners 3-1. Senior Emily Fulcher recorded her 22nd career goal which ties her for second in all-time career goals. She also moved to third place in career points with 47.

"We really have to give a lot of credit to our athletic trainers. They have done such a good job getting our girls healthy and back out on to the field and we are starting to see some of the positive benefits from that," said head coach Heather Henson. "Jacksonville is a good team, a very strong team, but our girls just came out with a lot of excitement and were able to carry over the momentum from Thursday night's game to today."

ETSU finishes out their home stand Saturday, October 7 as they take on the Kennesaw State Owls at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
