COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (September 17, 2006) - Two first half goals and a strong Buccaneer defense gave the ETSU women's soccer team their first victory of the season over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, 2-1. The Bucs improve to 1-5-1 on the season while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-6-1.

ETSU attacked early as they got off four shots and a corner kick in the first eight minutes of play, but Tennessee Tech's defense were able to thwart the attempts. The Golden Eagles then jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Jocelyn Daniel found the back of the net in the 9th minute of play.

However, the Bucs offense responded quickly as freshman Jordan Monty (Dallas, Texas) found the back of the net a mere three minutes later to even the score at 1-1. ETSU's stingy defense was able to suppress Tennessee Tech's attack.

With 15 minutes left in the first half, senior midfielder Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) drove a shot into the net on a pass from Kia Kindell (Westchester, Ohio) to give the Bucs a 2-1 lead.

It would prove to be the game-winning goal as both defenses battled during the second period. Freshman Lindsay Metcalf (Mars Hill, N.C.) made five saves on the day and the Bucs held the advantage on corner kicks 6-3.

The goals by Fulcher and Monty were their third and second goals on the season respectively, while Kindell picks up her second assist.

"Lindsey did a great job for us and made several key saves in the second half," said head coach Heather Henson. "The team just came ready to win today and battled the entire 90 minutes. They were able to create scoring opportunities and it was just a great win."

The Bucs open conference play on the road, traveling to Macon, Ga. on Friday, September 22 as they take on Mercer before traveling to Deland, Fla. to face the Stetson Hatters. Friday's contest is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
