Winter weather suspends Baseball Bucs contest with Niagara

Saturday, February 17, 2007

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 17, 2007) - Heavy snowfall at Cardinal Park forced the suspension of game two of the ETSU-Niagara series Saturday afternoon with the Bucs leading 6-4 in the seventh inning.  The game will resume Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the series finale to follow.

Junior Anthony Russell (Waldorf, Md.) put the Bucs on the board in the first inning with his first home run of the season, a three-run blast over the left center field wall, tying the game at three.

Trailing 4-3 in the fourth, the Bucs scored two runs on freshman Tanner Moore's (Chattanooga, Tenn.) bases loaded fly out to center field to take their first lead of the day.  Freshman Justin Tramble (Marietta, Ga.) scored from third on the play, and after advancing to third, an errant throw from shortstop Andrew MacDonald allowed sophomore Troy Mendez (Marietta, Ga.) around with the go-ahead run.

Freshman Drew Story (Jefferson City, Tenn.) pitched five innings in his second collegiate start, striking out three, but also allowing four runs on five hits.  Niagara starter Mark Sikorski was forced from the game in the first inning after being struck in the face by a line drive back up the middle.

In addition to Sunday's schedule change, ETSU has also added a contest with Eastern Michigan for Tuesday, February 20.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Cardinal Park.
