MACON, Ga. (Feb. 12, 2007) - Senior Justin Aughey turned in an outstanding opening weekend performance against The Citadel this past weekend, and the conference office rewarded him with his first career Player of the Week award Monday afternoon.
Aughey hit .455 on the weekend with one home run and three RBI. The senior crushed his first homer in his first at bat of the season Friday night. The Davie, Fla. native had two crucial RBI in the Bucs' 5-3, 13-inning victory Saturday afternoon. For the series, Aughey went 5-for-11 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and a .818 slugging percentage.
Aughey was third on ETSU with seven home runs last season, driving in 31 runs and hitting .238 in 43 appearances.
The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Player of the Week awards weekly during the 2007 baseball season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
