MURRELS INLET, S.C. (March 10, 2008) - The No. 22-ranked ETSU men's golf team was not pleased with its trip to the General Jim Hackler Championship, but there was at least something to be encouraged by following Monday's third and final round at the TPC of Myrtle Beach.

The Buccaneers fired their best round of the tournament to move from 10th to a tie for seventh on the final day of play, finishing 18 strokes back of team champion and No. 18-ranked Wake Forest. The Bucs were again led by senior Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), who finished the tournament tied for 16th after posting a final round score of 3-over 75.

"We played better in stretches today, but we still saw some of the same with too many three putts and water balls," said ETSU head coach Fred Warren. "This just wasn't one of our best performances. We were happy with moving up a couple of spots, but hopefully we can figure some things out before our next tournament."

Shaw finished nine strokes back of individual champion Derek Fathauer from Louisville. Meanwhile, senior Cian McNamara (Limericak, Ireland) also posted a 75 to finish tied for 29th, while sophomore Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) fired the Bucs' best round of the day with a 1-over 73. Freshman Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) ended the event tied for 36th.

The Bucs will return to action March 24 in the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Atlanta, Ga. For updates throughout the spring, visit ETSUBucs.com.
