AUSTIN, Texas (May 9, 2008) - The ETSU women's golf team made up two spots on the team leaderboard Friday, but the Buccaneers are still nine strokes away from the all-important Top 8 entering third and final round play in the NCAA Central Regional Saturday at the University of Texas Golf Club.

Led by a 1-under-par 71 from senior Maria Ringdahl (Farjestaden, Sweden) and a 2-over 74 from junior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), the Bucs fired a second round score of 302 and are currently nine back of Nebraska, which currently stands eighth on the leaderboard. No. 3 UCLA currently leads the event at even par 576 for the tournament, but the Top 8 teams will receive bids to the NCAA Championships later this month.

"We did make up some ground on two teams, but we still have a lot of work to do tomorrow," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "Our seniors stepped up and gave us good efforts today, but we need to post four quality scores tomorrow. We can't have three good scores and have to count a high number."

While Ringdahl showed a great deal of senior leadership and moved to a team-best tie for 23rd on individual leaderboard, sophomore and Atlantic Sun Conference individual champion Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) struggled on day two. After finishing the first round in the Top 5 individually, Jansone posted an 82 on Friday to drop to a tie for 42nd. Meanwhile, senior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) also improved on her first round of play, posting a 4-over 76.

The Bucs will play final round action on Saturday, with Golfstat.com providing live stats via the Internet. Fans can get a wrap up following the day's action by visiting ETSUBucs.com.
