ETSU women move to 14th at NCAA Central Regional; need to make up nine strokes in final round

AUSTIN, Texas (May 9, 2008) - The ETSU women's golf team made up two spots on the team leaderboard Friday, but the Buccaneers are still nine strokes away from the all-important Top 8 entering third and final round play in the NCAA Central Regional Saturday at the University of Texas Golf Club.
Led by a 1-under-par 71 from senior Maria Ringdahl (Farjestaden, Sweden) and a 2-over 74 from junior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), the Bucs fired a second round score of 302 and are currently nine back of Nebraska, which currently stands eighth on the leaderboard. No. 3 UCLA currently leads the event at even par 576 for the tournament, but the Top 8 teams will receive bids to the NCAA Championships later this month.
"We did make up some ground on two teams, but we still have a lot of work to do tomorrow," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "Our seniors stepped up and gave us good efforts today, but we need to post four quality scores tomorrow. We can't have three good scores and have to count a high number."
While Ringdahl showed a great deal of senior leadership and moved to a team-best tie for 23rd on individual leaderboard, sophomore and Atlantic Sun Conference individual champion Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) struggled on day two.
